PETALING JAYA, 21 SEPTEMBER 2023 – Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Malaysia celebrated a significant milestone at its 30th Charity Golf Championship today, successfully raising RM500,000 to support underprivileged children across Malaysia.

Held at the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort, the Charity Golf Championship 2023 aims to raise essential funds for the RMHC Back to School Packs programme. This initiative is dedicated to providing 10,000 children in need nationwide with a school bag containing a uniform, school shoes, essential school supplies, to enable them to start the new school year with confidence.

“The annual Charity Golf Championship has always been a cornerstone of our unwavering commitment to making a profound and lasting impact on the lives of underprivileged children. It fills our hearts with immense joy and gratitude to witness the realization of this significant milestone. It reaffirms our dedication to the cause and strengthens our resolve to continue our mission of creating a brighter and more promising future for the youth of Malaysia,” said Dato’ Azmir Jaafar, President of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Malaysia, as well as Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald’s Malaysia.

Since 2017, RMHC has allocated nearly RM10 million for its Back to School Packs programme, positively impacting the lives of nearly 160,000 children across the nation. This initiative stands among the four main programs that RMHC Malaysia supports, encompassing their core pillars of Health, Education, and Welfare

In addition to supporting education, RMHC Malaysia remains committed to improving the health and wellbeing of underprivileged children. During the Charity Golf Championship event, RMHC Malaysia also presented medical grants totalling over RM280,000 to five welfare funds in selected hospitals, including IJN Foundation, Tabung Pesakit Hospital USM, Tabung Perubatan Malaysia Hospital Tunku Azizah, Tabung Pesakit Hospital Pakar Kanak-Kanak UKM, and PPUMCare, UM Medical Centre.

“The presentation of medical grants at the Charity Golf Championship underscores our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of underprivileged children in Malaysia. We are proud to have contributed over RM750,000 in grants since 2018, and it is deeply fulfilling to see the positive impact these grants have had on the lives of more than 200 children who needed financial assistance for medical treatment, equipment, or medication. This reinforces our belief in the power of collective efforts to bring positive change to our communities,” added Dato’ Azmir Jaafar.

RMHC Malaysia was established in February 1990 and registered as Persatuan Kebajikan Ronald McDonald Malaysia, a non-profit organization, with the mission to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of underprivileged children in Malaysia.
