It is estimated that 1 in every 700 newborn babies in Malaysia may be diagnosed with a cleft lip or palate. Although this condition is non-life threatening, its huge psychological impact may deter these children from leading normal lives. However, there is hope…thanks to medical surgery.

Since its inception in 2004, more than RM2.9 million has been utilized in helping more than 350 local children born with 1st stage cleft lip and palate to undergo corrective operations. But what most people don’t know is that this is only the first step in their journey towards full recovery. As they grow up, these children will need additional & different stages of corrective operations to treat this birth defect. They must have proper dental care, orthodontics services, alveolar bone grafts and even speech therapy to manage or correct their conditions. It is a journey. Some children may require support right up to the age of 18.

In late 2013, we catered to children towards the 2nd stage and since then we have channelled RM40,450 and more than 15 children have benefited.

Free transportation is given to families outside Klang Valley and accommodation at Ronald McDonald House (RMH) – PPUKM at RM5/night.

To recommend a child that needs assistance, please download the application form or contact the RMHC Malaysia Hotline at 012-365 7324.

Priority is given to families with a total household income of RM3,000.00 and below.

This program is made possible with Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur and PPUKM.

The journey ahead may be long and challenging but it’s well worth the effort. The perfect smiles on these children’s faces, their restored confidence and ability to lead normal lives will help them grow into healthy and happy adults. And isn’t this the basis of a good and happy community?
